Snakes Alive! Derby Telegraph article about my worst home nightmare discoveries!

2016-05-22T17:24:05+00:00

Today, the Derby Telegraph published a double page article on some of the problems I discover when I'm called-in to help to prepare a house for sale: Derby Telegraph article Here's the full article: Home horrors that need fixing before you can sell your property VIOLENT violet on the walls, terrifying tarantulas in the spare bedroom and psychedelic swirls on the living room carpet. It's enough to put off the most enthusiastic house buyer. And this is why people [...]

Home staging and updating a house stuck in Memory Lane

2016-03-05T22:17:34+00:00

This was a wonderful project to work on. Updating a house that has not been altered in any way for many years - whatever the reason - is really rewarding, especially when the homeowner is ready to make those changes, and allows you a free-rein, within an agreed budget. The purpose of the update was to help to sell the house, but an added bonus for the homeowner was the amount of decluttering that I helped him with, which will make his move [...]

Hear me and my client on the radio, discussing a good declutter!

2016-03-05T10:53:47+00:00

BBC Radio Derby I was recently interviewed on BBC Radio Derby by Sally Pepper.  One of my current clients was invited to join us, as the subject was decluttering - the effect it can have on your home and the lives of your family.  My client Wendy was happy to discuss the effect it had already had on her family, even though we're only halfway through the project.  She is determined to teach her two small girls [...]

How to declutter your attic and keep it that way – in six easy steps

2016-03-05T11:32:44+00:00

How to declutter your attic - and keep it that way. I have had several cluttered attic projects this year, and although my clients needed help for different reasons (bereavement, planning to move home, general declutter), the attic declutter process has remained the same. There are some 'before' and 'after' photos of an attic at the end of this article. To declutter your attic and keep it that way in the future, work through these six steps: 1) Plan in advance. It [...]

Decluttering a sister’s house while she was on holiday!

2013-10-21T12:03:23+00:00

This was the strangest project ever - decluttering a house whilst the owners were on holiday. Not something I was really comfortable with to start with, until my client had proven that she had full permission to declutter her sister's house while she was away! We arranged plenty of helpers (friends and family) to act as packers, cleaners, runners to the tip and charity shop etc. and the whole project was completed in one weekend. We don't charge extra for organising a [...]

Declutter project in Derby – children’s toys in EVERY room!

2013-10-20T16:40:02+00:00

The majority of this declutter project in Derby involved sorting the children's toys and condensing them to a few rooms in the house instead of every room. Seriously, children do not need to take over every room in the house. Many parents keep something in each room on purpose, to entertain them with, but it doesn't make their lives easier after all because they never have any calm, uncluttered spaces to relax in. They aren't teaching their children the valuable lesson [...]

Every home benefits from a declutter once in a while

2013-11-08T13:33:43+00:00

Declutter a complete room once in a while. You know that feeling you get when you've sorted your sock drawer? It's like that only ten times more intense! These photographs show various small projects that benefited from our decluttering services.  It's not just the surface clutter that was removed, all cupboards and drawers were emptied and re-organised too.  That's the trick - just trying to tidy the surfaces causes more problems if the drawers and cupboards are already full. Here are [...]

Declutter project in Redditch – a house and apartment combination

2013-11-08T13:35:00+00:00

A huge declutter project in Redditch, followed by home staging to prepare it for sale. This wonderful property had been a precious family home for many years, but the girls had now 'flown the nest' and impending retirement enables a move nearer to the sea, so we were delighted to help to declutter and prepare this property for sale. To start with, the lady of the house was adament that she didn't want to get rid of anything, and rented two huge [...]

Declutter project in Birmingham – a 5 bed house with no storage – beware of this when converting your attic

2013-10-18T12:27:09+00:00

This declutter project was huge, and the cause of most of the clutter was simply that when the attic was converted to a bedroom, there was no more storage added to compensate for the huge loss of storage space. Converting your attic gives you an extra room or two, but don't forget to create extra storage in the rest of the house to compensate for the loss of this major storage area - and have a regular declutter too.  This family were struggling [...]

Declutter project, a 5 bed cottage in Northampton

2013-10-18T12:27:54+00:00

Declutter project: a large cottage in Northampton. This five-bedroom cottage was set in a much sought after village location, and potential buyers had flocked to view it.  But no offers had been forthcoming, as they simply couldn't see through the clutter of a busy family with three children.  I was called to organise a declutter. For four days, we decluttered, cleaned and re-arranged the furniture and accessories. Spending only £150 on accessories for the finishing touches, the home went on the market.  It [...]
