Small Showhome in Nottingham – low budget, high impact

2017-02-01T19:34:42+00:00

My brief for this Showhome in Nottingham was to produce the biggest impact on the smallest budget. As usual! With careful planning and design, considering the needs of any potential buyers, within two weeks of my initial consultation, this was the result. The developer was delighted - and I quote - "Looking great, I have to say!  You have done a great job.  The flat has a lovely feel, I am delighted, and it's such a pleasure to work with someone who delivers [...]

Show Home Styling

2016-03-05T22:15:04+00:00

Show Home styling is all about presenting the space to appeal to all potential buyers - on the lowest budget possible.  I was asked which of the three upper level apartments I would choose to style as the show home, and whilst other designers chose the largest, most straightforward apartment, I went for the most awkward - and got the job!             This was my client's response to the show home styling: See what the apartment [...]

Home Makeover – making an unusual colour scheme work

2013-10-23T14:05:06+00:00

My client wanted me to finish what he had already started - and he'd already chosen the colour scheme.  He had strong yellows, oranges, and pale pastel blues throughout the house, which wasn't working well together. The easiest way to resolve this was for me to add a stronger blue, and combine blue, yellow and orange into the artwork in the rooms. It's difficult to find suitable artwork in unusual schemes, so I employed a local Nottingham artist (Pete Spowage) [...]

A stunning home makeover in Grantham

2013-10-18T12:28:06+00:00

This new home makeover was a dream-come-true for my newly-wed clients. It was their first home and they had absolutely no idea what they wanted in it. Luckily, I had a few ideas... and they loved them. Here are some of the comments: "Lynn, you have miles more experience, talent and vision then we will ever have! Thank you so much! We love it! Everything is beautiful and everything we could  have imagined and more. You are a true artist in [...]

How to position the bed correctly

2013-09-25T17:09:39+00:00

When considering how to position the bed in a room when you are preparing your home for sale, always consider the photographs. Try not to position the side of a bed against a wall, especially if it's a double bed. The extra floor space doesn't make the room look larger, as most people imagine. The photographs are much more appealing if the bed is a focal point in the room, in the centre. I often find beds in strange places! [...]

Home makeover tip. Identify design trends.

2013-09-25T19:57:23+00:00

IDENTIFY DESIGN TRENDS With a home makeover, it's hard to know when should you be following fashion and when you should avoid it. You need to update a home, but you don't want to choose a fashionable colour or style that will date quickly. • In general, don’t follow interiors trends too closely, they change with every season now • More expensive items need to be timeless, so just add smaller items in the latest design trend. If the makeover [...]

Home makeover tip. Timescale.

2013-09-25T20:54:12+00:00

TIMESCALE - if you have a short timescale for your home makeover, are your plans realistic? • Consider all the trades involved and how they impact each other. Allow them the time and space to work efficiently, don't book them all to work in the same room on one day. • Be realistic with your own time   If the home makeover is for selling purposes... • The timescale is usually very short - the faster the property is back [...]

Home makeover tip. Skill level.

2013-09-25T21:05:40+00:00

HOME MAKEOVER SKILLS - what skills are you or your family able to use in the makeover? When do you need to call-in the professionals? • Analyse your own skills carefully and balance this with the time you would realistically be able to give to the project • Consider skilled tradesmen if budget allows, as this ensures the project will reach completion! If the home makeover is for selling purposes... Poor workmanship can devalue a property, so don't cut corners A [...]
