“Buy a new sofa and sell your home” was the advice I gave to this client! My client planned to buy a new sofa and chairs once she had moved house, but I convinced her that doing so now would increase the saleability of her current house. I only advised this as I knew she would be purchasing a similar sized property, so there wouldn’t be a problem fitting them into her new home. If there is any chance the property you are moving to may have a smaller living room, then buy smaller sofas and chairs, with an option to buy more in the same style if required when you sell your home and move.
